Going To Niagara Falls

Today I can cross FOUR items off my List of 50 Things I want to do before my birthday.  Four!  What a great day.  John and I have been planning this for a long time.  We had it scheduled a couple of weeks ago, but woke up to a rainy day and decided to postpone.  Today was finally perfect for our amazing day.

We went to Niagara Falls, New York and went Seneca Niagara Casino (check off one item).

I had never been to a casino in my life, so I put this to my list.  We ate lunch at their fabulous buffet and then we went into the casino itself.  There were so many lights and bells and noises.  It was an exciting place.  We had decided that we would spend $5, just to have the experience.  We picked out a machine to play, a 25 cent machine.  We put in our money and took our chances.  Sometimes it seemed like we won, but we didn’t.  Sometimes it seemed like we lost, but we won extra spins.  It was all very strange and, I’m sorry to say, kind of boring.  But, now I can cross it off my list.

Next we drove to the Canadian side and went to the Butterfly Conservatory (item number two for the day).  I will write more about this magical experience in a later post.  For now, I will just say that it was so, so wonderful.

The Butterfly Conservatory far exceeded my expectations.

After a long visit with the butterflies, we toured the Botanical Garden (check off item number 3).  Another wonderful experience, although we did not see the entire grounds of the Garden.

We headed over to see the Falls themselves (final item of the day).  The temperature was 80 degrees and sunny.  There was a huge amount of spray coming off the Falls and the combination of spray and sunshine made perfect conditions for a beautiful rainbow.

Photographing a rainbow was not on my list, but I have told several people that I hoped to capture a rainbow on camera this summer.  It was an “unofficial” goal for me.  So today, I managed to achieve four goals from my list and one additional “surprise” goal.  It was a very, very fun and amazing day.

  1. Awesome pics! I love that Butterfly Conservatory; one of my top 10 favorite places I’ve ever been! Next time I see you, I’ll tell you my magical experience there. Glad you had such an amazing day.
Let’s schedule our yoga class soon!
    Love, Sheri

  2. WOW, what beautiful pictures of a perfect day. We have done that particular day a few times in the last 20 years and it’s never failed to be wonderful. Tour writing and pictures make us want to go again very soon….

    • The glory of the Falls never grows old, does it? All that power moving over the falls is awesome. It gives me a sense of the overwhelming power that God has. I’ll be putting up lots more photos soon! Thanks for commenting on this post.

  3. What a beautiful picture of the rainbow!! The boys and I have been to the butterfly conservatory and Zach almost walked out with a butterfly sitting on his shoulder. He was wearing a tye-dye shirt and the butterfly blended in so well. Glad you were able to accomplish so many things on your list..and some that weren’t on the list 🙂

  4. Belinda, I was so pleased to read of your accomplishments today. Wow, four plus a
rainbow…..now that is a day to remember.
I so remember going to the falls when we visited with my daughter in 2006. I loved the entire experience. And, the Butterfly world close to the falls was far more than I expected. The one we have here in Boca Raton doesn’t live up to the
Canadian grounds. Since Genevieve, who was only two at that time, and drank apple juice from her bottle, she was a sweet target of the butterflies.
Lunch with my family overlooking the falls and
the spray in our faces while outside at the walk rails is always fresh in my mind.
May you continue to have rainbow blessing days and thank you for sharing.
    Jo
