20 Ways To Brighten Your Day

I was feeling kind of blah the other day and I did not want to give in to having a bad day.  I decided to try to think of some easy and inexpensive things I could do…things that have helped me cheer myself up in the past.  I am pretty happy with my list and so I decided to share it.  So, here are 20 ways to brighten your own day.

  • Breathe.  Feel the air go deep into your lungs.
  • Think of one thing you are thankful for right now.
  • Go for a walk.
  • Call a friend that you miss.
  • Smile at the next 5 people you see.  Make eye contact, if possible.
  • Get a manicure.
  • Take ten minutes to meditate.  Just close your eyes, relax, and be still.
  • Enjoy a glass of ice water.  Add a slice of lemon, orange, cucumber, or a sprig of mint if you can.
  • Sit somewhere outside:  a porch, a park, a café, a backyard.
  • Make a list of things you have to do.  Make a list of things you want to do.  Do one simple thing from each list.
  • Breathe again.
  • Listen to a song that makes you feel happy.
  • Have a cup of herbal tea.
  • Watch your favorite funny movie.  Let yourself laugh out loud.
  • Buy a couple of “Thinking of You” cards at the Dollar Store and send them to people you’ve been meaning to contact.
  • Re-read a favorite children’s book.
  • Take a picture of something beautiful.  Really think about capturing the beauty.
  • Put something silly where you will see it while you are working – a photo, a stuffed animal, a cartoon.
  • Bake a batch of cookies.  Give half away.
  • Paint. Or draw. Or color.

Have fun.  Add to the list.  And chase your blahs away.
